How can I possible just write it like that?!?!?!
OMG I GOT MY BLUE BELT, I PASSED, I PASSED, I PASSED, I PASSED - and... how do I have the patience to put commas in between?
Oh well. If it wasn't obvious, today was a good day. Sort've.
The morning was fairly nerve-wracking, I have to admit I hate it when JH comes, 'cause he's so intimidating and scary, and the way he just looks at you while you're doing your pattern, like ... well, it generally makes me freak out. And even though I did pretty ok, I was hoping to shine in my pattern, 'cause I just knew it so well at the start. But then I sort of spaced out... but thank God, I know this is sadistic, but D - who was the only other person of my rank grading - really screwed up, like, forgot everything. So we both had to start again, and I corrected my teensy mistake.
And I passed!!!!
Oh, my sparring was pretty suckish, but hey, I had to verse S, and she's a killer, that one. Besides, it was only like two seconds... twenty seconds? Whateverrrr.
Then, I came home... and we had to go to this VCE seminar, organised by our 'community'. They fed us the general stuff that is mentioned in school; y'know... about... VCE and stuff... don't stress. All that.
I learnt: music is not good whilst studying, write as opposed to type your notes, keep up excercise and an outside life of studying, keep options open, do what you love, 'reading over' is not studying, keep extra-curricular activities, do your best... well, see, I didn't learn anything amazing. I knew it already. Ok, I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but the community is called the ****** ***-****** Muslim *********** of Australia, and yet the Muslim part of it never seems to be built upon.
Out of the whole thing, A was the only one to really set it in motion - speaking of the importance of career choice and stuff, but saying how it should also help build your hereafter. It relates to the religous aspect of the community. I mean, if you don't have that, what's the point of distuingishing ourselves if we just spout the same thing as everyone else?
Another factor is the hypocrisy; ok, it's not as extreme as it sounds. But you have them telling you the importance of seeking knowledge in our religon, how the very first verses sent down were 'iqra'; meaning 'read'. It goes on... but what annoyed me was the people who quoted Qu'ran, the 'mentors', yeah, well, they seemed to miss the part of the Qu'ran that told women to cover up. It's just so... typical. Asians that we are, education is a first priority. We'll find everyway to make it the most important thing, drill it into you. And yet, religous education doesn't matter, despite having the label of 'Muslim' on your community board.
I mean, I don't expect them to preach all sorts of stuff.... but would it really be hard, say, on the topic of stress, to tell us to remember that 'God will not give us a burden that we cannot bear'? Or, instead of just saying 'it's not the end of the world if you flunk VCE, you can always take another side course to get to your ambition', why not add 'in the end, your VCE mark won't be the thing that's going to get you into Paradise'... or something simple like that.
To put it basically; 'my community' are such wannabes.
It's just sad, really. I don't need them to be extremely perfect Muslims, but at least... live up to your name. Or don't use it at all.
Anyway, I'm not turning this into a rant. I'm a BLUE BELT!
I watched Inkheart yesterday. Granted, it's not the book, but I still love it! TWAS EPIC! I think they chose the perfect cast too.... I imagined Farid with shorter hair, and Elinor a little fatter, but I can compromise. I liked the cast. They were good. If it was exact to the book, the overall movie would've been better. But I'm telling you - it's awesome!
(Though, I think, if I watched the movie a week after reading the book, I wouldn't be cutting it so much slack...)
And Friday class was awesome. We talked about things... like creepy illumanati nutjobs... lady gaga... (I don't want to give them the respect of capital letters)...dogs.
Oh, yes, dogs. See, I was under the impression that we were not supposed to keep dogs unless for guarding purposes because they have unclean saliva. I learnt, however, that they also carry a taperworm-ish invisible parasite that there is no cure to - unless the body perchance develops an antibody.
It's not just that, however. Dogs are intelligent beings. They are meant to be trained for a purpose. Guard dogs, seeing-eye dogs, sheep dogs, police dogs - all acceptable, and all with purpose. Apparently, psychologically, a dog needs to have a purpose, needs to be trained to a master. Without that, they go psycho. Attack humans and such. You can't just spend your life hugging and kissing and whatever-ing them, because that's not what they're meant for!
The only thing that keep a lot of them going now is the fact owners want their dogs trained for obedience and such - if not for that, we'd have a lot more insane doggies around the block. But still, this mollycoddling you do with your dog - you are, in fact, slowly and mentally torturing them.
Nice to know, right? So, knowledgeable Muslims, in fact, respect the dog by keeping it for purpose, or not keeping it at all. My fear of dogs only comes from a childhood memory of our evil neighbours setting their doggy on us. That's all.
^^
Eventually I'll get around to explaining it to Star... I wonder how she'll take it...
Anywho, exams start this week. If I do, perchance, blog this week, it will probably be of epic frustration. Cheers.
ATM:
Reading: Thirteen Steps Down. Ruth Rendell. Haven't started it... uhm, yeah, Deadly Decisions ended well. Pretty epic, actually. But the start and middle was just... a drag. Too much information.
Writing: The Faux Princess. No, I haven't ditched the SJ, but I made progress on this yesterday.
Listening to: Worry Ends. Sami Yusuf. I've already expressed my love for the song and the singer :P
Feeling: Happy. I'M A BLUE BELT, OK?!?!
So, because I've given you lyrics to this song, I'll give you a passage from a Harlan Coben :)
Myron reached for the phone and dialed Win's number. After the eighth ring he began to hang up when a weak, distant voice coughed. "Hello?"
“Win?"
“Yeah."
“You okay?"
“Hello?"
“Win?"
“Yeah."
“What took you so long to answer the phone?"
“Hello?"
“Win?"
“Who is this?"
“Myron."
“Myron Bolitar?"
“How many other Myrons do you know?"
“Myron Bolitar?"
“No, Myron Rockefeller."
“Something's wrong," Win said.
“What?"
“Terribly wrong."
“What are you talking about?"
“Some asshole is calling me at seven in the morning pretending to be my best friend."
“Sorry, I forgot the time."
Peace in,Laila
